THE SECOND ANNUAL KINGSTON MUSIC WEEK, KICKS OFF DECEMBER 1- 6!

 (L) Cherine (R) Boris Gardiner—  LIVE music comes to the capital city from December 1-6 with the second staging of Kingston Music Week.The week kicks off on Tuesday with Live at Countryside scheduled for Countryside Club in Half-Way-Tree, and features ’80s deejay Peter Metro, Nina Karle and Alana. On Wednesday, student bands at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts will take patrons through the history of Jamaican music — from ska to dancehall — at the college’s amphitheatre. “FAREWELL JOHN HOLT” – NUMEROUS TRIBUTES PAID TO THE MUSICAL ICON!

File photos By Shereita Grizzle—- On Sunday night into yesterday, the music industry was again sent into mourning as the news of yet another icon’s passing circulated. On Sunday, singer John Holt passed away at the Wellington Hospital, StJohn’s Wood, London. He was 69 years old. Among the many hit songs in Holt’s extensive catalogue are The Tide is High, On the Beach, Wear You to the Ball, Stick By Me, Police in Helicopter, Tribal War (first done by Little Roy), Wildfire (a duet with the late Dennis Brown), If I Were a Carpenter, Ali Baba, and A Love I Can Feel. BRIGADIER JERRY, BIG YOUTH, BUSHMAN, CHERINE, AND ERNIE SMITH, AMONG ACTS FOR “PLAY FOR CHANGE DAY” IN OCHO RIOS, SEPTEMBER 20!

   Brigadier Jerry— VETERAN dancehall deejay Brigadier Jerry and foundation sound system Jah Love will be among several acts scheduled for the global concert Play for Change Day at Irie River in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on September 20. According to Michael Cacia, event producer, this is the first time the show will be held in Jamaica. “It will be one of over 300 shows across six continents on that day. But, Jamaica’s will be the biggest,” he said. The proceeds from the concert will be invested back in the community. “We intend to raise money for a school where kids could come learn music education and computer skills,” he told the Jamaica Observer. THE REACH ONE CHILD FOUNDATION INAUGURAL “ROC KIDS FEST” FOR AUGUST 10, IN KINGSTON!

  The Reach One Child “ROC” Foundation presents the inaugural ROC Kids Fest 2014 –  a one-day family festival for children and children-at-heart. The event will take place on August 10th at 5 Keesing Avenue, Kingston 10, from noon to 8 p.m. and will include top names from the entertainment and creative art industry. The day promises to be packed with activities for all ages and will include student vs celebrity video games, bounce-abouts for both adults and kids, mechanical bulls, merry go round, face painting and clowns.
