 Chris Gayle (Photo: AP)— SYDNEY, Australia (AP) — Chris Gayle was fined but avoided suspension for making inappropriate comments to a female reporter in a live TV interview during a Big Bash League Twenty20 match in Australia. After scoring 41 from 15 deliveries for the Melbourne Renegades in a win over the Hobart Hurricanes on Monday night, the former West Indies captain suggested to television reporter Mel McLaughlin that the pair go out for a drink and made remarks about her appearance. He added, “Don’t blush, baby” during an awkward pause in the interview. KINGSTON-BASED KURFEW BAND IS MAKING THE ROUNDS!

   The Kurfew band members (from left) Lewin Thomas (drums), Kenny Mullings (guitar), Andre ‘Carlos’ Marsh (band leader) and Jerome Small (bass). EVERY Monday for the past eight months, keyboardist Andre ‘Carlos’ Marsh leads the Kurfew band on stage at Triple Century Sports Bar in New Kingston. Unlike the heyday of the 1970s, show bands are rare in Kingston. Having a regular gig is critical for Marsh and his colleagues. “The more we play, the more we gel and develop a sound. Playing live is a great thing,” Marsh told the Jamaica Observer. Jerome Small (bass), Kenny Mullings (guitar), Lewin Thomas (drums) and vocalist Asante Amen complete the Kurfew line-up. THE CARIBBEAN HALL OF FAME AWARDS RETURN OCTOBER 25!

This year, founder/executive director, Garnett Reid, is reviving the event. “UNESCO has credited us with being one of the best cultural organisations in the region and we want to keep it that way,” Reid told the Jamaica Observer on Monday. The launch of the 12th Caribbean Hall of Fame Awards for Excellence is planned for today at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston. The actual awards function is scheduled for October 25 at the Jamaica Pegasus. Thirty Caribbean nationals will be honored for their contributions in the fields of sports, music, arts, and culture.
