SHABBA RANKS…MY SHARED MEMORY!

As Shabba Ranks (Rexton Gordon) is about to be honored by the government of Jamaica with the Order of Distinction (OD) on Monday, October 17, for his outstanding contributions to music and to brand Jamaica, here is my true and accurate recollection of the beginning of his journey. IMPRESARIO CLIFTON “SPECIALIST” DILLON INTRODUCES HIS LATEST FIND, SPIRITUAL!

Spiritual— Impresario Clifton ‘Specialist’ Dillon, who has had success with Shabba Ranks, Patra, Ky-Mani Marley, Mad Cobra, Alborosie and OMI, recently signed singer Spiritual to his Oufah Music label. Spiritual’s first album, Awakening, is due in early 2017 on VP Records. Two singles have so far been released to stir interest in the project. The board comprises: Lenford Salmon, chairman; Gussie Clarke, deputy chairman; Councillor Duane Smith; Kingsley Cooper; Clifton “Specialists” Dillon; Dr Carlene Davis-Cowan; Dr Sonjah Stanley-Niah; Paula Surtees; Bunny Brown; Howard McIntosh; Herbie Miller; Clyde McKenzie; Michael “Ibo” Cooper; Joseph Bogdanovich; Karen Smith; Jacqueline Knight-Campbell; Shelly-Ann Curran; and Kamal Bankay.
