Denette Lewis was born on May 3 in Kingston Jamaica. Originated from humble beginnings, she spent half of her early childhood days in Clarendon ,where she first started singing at the age of 3 within the church settings. After spending couple years in Clarendon she went through the transition of moving back into Kingston at age 8 where she continue singing in church with her sister Noreta Lewis and other family members.  While attending Kingston Technical High School, Dejah was very instrumental in the leadership of the school choir where she made great strides within her vocal career. After finishing school she got more involved in music full time where it became a career and started singing professionally.
