TAD’S RECORDS PUTS ITS MONEY ON DANCEHALL MUSIC!

  Top: Demarco Bottom: Alkaline DESPITE a continued slump in popularity overseas, music distributor Tad Dawkins says hardcore dancehall had the better of traditional reggae in terms of sales and appeal in 2014. Dawkins, head of Tad’s International Record, declared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer that: “The dancehall scene is in a lull, the one drop reggae is making a bid to top the genre, but sales abroad and iTunes show dancehall outselling reggae by at least 10 to 1. The radio stations locally and overseas are responsible for that, they play mostly dancehall,” he said. According to Dawkins, imprisoned deejay Vybz Kartel “is still the number one seller”, followed by deejay Alkaline and singjay Demarco.    Morgan Heritage— THE 12th annual European Urban Music Awards nominations have been announced, with seven acts up for Best Reggae Act 2014. They are Mavado, Gyptian, Demarco, Morgan Heritage, Sean Paul, Stylo G and Popcaan. SEAN PAUL, I-OCTANE AND DEMARCO ARE ADDED TO THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL REGGAE FESTIVAL FOR AUGUST 15-17!

  Sean Paul—- ORGANIZERS of the Montreal International Reggae Festival have announced three more Jamaican acts for its annual show to be held in that French-Canadian city, on August 15-17. Sean Paul, I-Octane and Demarco are to join lover’s rock singers Maxi Priest and Sanchez, and reggae queen Marcia Griffiths for the three-day event. When the first set of acts was named late last month, organizers noted the line-up will reflect a blend of emerging and established acts in order to cater to the varied taste of patrons. Demarco, according to them, embodies a new era of avant-garde artists combining songwriting, music production, recording, and live performance.
