NEW YORK’S IRIE JAM RADIO JOINS THE CUMULUS MEDIA NETWORK GROUP!

 Bobby Clarke— FIVE months after becoming the giant Cumulus Media Network Group’s (CMNG) “reggae and Caribbean arm”, the head of Irie Jam Radio says the partnership has given the Queens, New York station a greater opportunity to expose West Indian culture to a broader audience. The Irie Jam Show, co-hosted by Dubmaster Chris and DJ Ron, airs Sundays from 8:00 pm to midnight on Radio 103.9, one of the hundreds of radio stations under the CMNG banner. Clarke, a Kingstonian who started Irie Jam 22 years ago, told Splash that the CMNG deal has helped the station move beyond its hardcore Caribbean base. “We’re now heard in different markets which gives us a bigger voice and platform. TV’S “DANCEHALL’S GOT TALENT” COMES TO NEW YORK CITY!

  By Cecelia Campbell-Livingston— Nikki Z to host upcoming talent show. Production on Dancehall’s Got Talent, a new television show scheduled to air in October, starts Friday in New York City. It will be broadcast on OmniPresent Media and OPM Digital Network. The show’s publicist, Malaika Lepine, says its objective is to expose new talent. “It gives opportunities for upcoming talent to really showcase and represent their culture in a way all reggae and dancehall music lovers can enjoy.” The 18-episode series will be hosted by Nicole ‘Nikki Z’ Duhaney. There are three judges: singer Ed Robinson, Irie Jam Radio’s DJ Roy and fashion personality Dougie Platinum. Dancehall’s Got Talent was created by LA Wright and Kevin Beswick who are also executive producers along with Irie Jam’s Bobby Clarke. DJ ROY, RORY, WEE POW, AND MIGHTY CROWN TO RECEIVE “ICONS OF SOUL SOUND SYSTEM AWARDS” IN NEW YORK CITY, JUNE 7!

  The 12th staging of Icons of Soul, which takes place on June 7 at the Rochdale Village Community Center in Jamaica, Queens, New York, will see Stone Love’s selectors Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell and Rory; Mighty Crown from Japan and DJ Roy from Road International being recognised for their contribution to the Jamaican music/sound system industry. They will receive the Icons of Soul Sound System Ambassador Award. “These sound system stalwarts have paid their dues to the industry and made their mark.
