BARRINGTON LEVY CALLS FOR GOOD SONGWRITERS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE MUSIC!

 By Richard Johnson—  Top_Barrington Levy, Journalist Howard Campbell and Doctor Dread—  VETERAN reggae singer Barrington Levy is calling for an improved band of songwriters in a bid to improve the quality of the music coming out of Jamaica. The artiste made reference to the domination of international reggae charts, such as Billboard, by acts originating outside of Jamaica — the cradle and home of reggae music. “What we need in the business is some songwriters to do real reggae… We have to take up this thing in a positive way,” said Levy. “Bob Marley set the thing lyrically and we need to take it back. BARRINGTON LEVY RELEASES FIRST ACOUSTIC ALBUM!

Reggae’s “Mellow Canary,” Barrington Levy releases his highly anticipated Acousticalevy album on May 5th through Tafari Records and Levy’s label imprint Black Roses Entertainment. The album is a compilation of Barrington’s hit songs, re-recorded with a fresh but classic style plus two new songs including “Life Is Great”(ft. Patrice)  and “Times Hard”. Debuting at track number two is Barrington’s famous “Under Mi Sensi” hit, originally released in 1984 with producer Jah Screw, the new acoustical version bring new life to this hit single. At Number eleven is track “Here I Come,” originally released the same year as “Under Mi Sensi,” the titled track secured Barrington a spot in the top of the UK Charts and won Barrington a Best Vocalist Award at Britain’s Reggae Awards. FREDDIE McGREGOR TAKES A MAJOR JERK FESTIVAL TO LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA, SEPTEMBER 28!

   By Howard Campbell– Freddie McGregor— JERK festivals seem to be a hot item — as far as Jamaican culture is concerned — in the United States these days. Several major cities including Atlanta, New York, Fort Lauderdale and Philadelphia have events showcasing spicy products. Long Beach in southern California has joined the mix. The Long Beach Reggae Music Jerk and Food Festival is scheduled for September 28. It is the brainchild of singer Freddie McGregor whose Big Ship Music label are promoters. “I’m very surprised at the sudden interest in the States for Jamaican jerk foods. I headlined the Atlanta jerk fest two weeks ago and we saw over 20,000 people in attendance,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “I guess people like family-friendly events.” McGregor said he has been “looking at that market for sometime now” … Read entire article »
