ELEPHANT MAN IS BACK ON BILLBOARD’S DANCE/CLUB CHART!

 Elephant Man— Hips Sing, Elephant Man’s collaboration with American house music DJ/producer DJ Sultan, debuted at number 47 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart last week. It is the third entry on this chart for the dancehall artist. He was on Janet Jackson’s 2004 number one dance hit All Nite (Don’t Stop); in 2007, he again topped the chart with Kat Deluna on Whine Up. Between 2003 and 2009, Elephant Man racked a string of hits on Billboard charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart, he scored two hits: 2003’s Pon De River, Pon De Bank which stalled at number 86, and Jook Gal (Wine Wine) alongside Kip Rich, which peaked at number 57. Flippa Mafia After a three-year legal battle, flamboyant deejay Flippa Mafia was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the Camden Superior Court in New Jersey in June.  In December last year, the entertainer, whose given name is Andrew Davis, was found guilty of first-degree distribution of cocaine, second-degree money laundering, and second-degree conspiracy. He will serve 12 years before being eligible for parole. Flippa Mafia was also ordered to pay a US$250,000 anti-money laundering profiteering penalty. ELEPHANT MAN ESCAPES RAPE CHARGES AFTER COMPLAINANT DIES!

 Elephant Man—  DANCEHALL artist Elephant Man was freed of rape and other sexual charges in the Home Circuit Court in Kingston, on Monday. According to the investigating officer, the case was dismissed after it was revealed that the complainant had passed away. She was buried on January 17. The prosecution said it could offer no evidence against the artist. As a result, a group of jurors were empanelled and instructed by Justice Marcia Dunbar Green to return a formal verdict of not guilty, freeing Elephant Man (whose given name is Oniel Bryan) of charges of rape, buggery and grievous sexual assault. DANCEHALL SINGER DARRIO, FEELS THE LOVE IN AFRICA!

 Singer Darrio performing in Kenya—- Africa has become one of dancehall music’s most vibrant markets, especially in the last five years. Among the artists making a mark there is singer Darrio. Next week, the 29-year-old heads to the Motherland for his fourth visit. On October 7, he deejays Delus and Konshens perform in Juba in the Sudan. The following day, he and Delus are scheduled to perform at the Skyluxx Nightclub in Nairobi, Kenya. It is Darrio’s second trip to Africa this year, having worked in Kampala, Uganda in August. “Africa is a high-energy place, the people feel strongly about the music an’ Jamaican culture. His latest stop was in Dubai, largest city in the United Arab Emirates. He performed there last Saturday on the monthly Beachfest. The deejay was surprised that dancehall is so popular in the Middle East territory. “Di ting tun up down dey. Di people dem love the music, love the Energy God (another of his monikers),” Elephant Man told Sunday Observer.
