EXCO LEVI GOES FOR HIS FIFTH JUNO AWARD!

By Kevin Jackson—  Exco Levi— SINGJAY Exco Levi, winner of the last four Reggae Recording of The Year categories of Canada’s Juno Awards, has been nominated for the 2016 event which takes place April 3 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. This is the fifth nomination for Exco Levi (born Wayne Ford Levy). The Clarendon-born artist is nominated for the Silly Walks Discotheque-produced Hello Mama.  “It’s really a joy to be nominated for the fifth time. Just to be nominated is a major accomplishment for me,” Exco Levi, who lives in Toronto, told the Jamaica Observer, moments after the nominations were announced. EXCO LEVI’S SONG “WELCOME THE KING” IS INCLUDED IN CANADIAN FILM “CAMELION!”

 Exco Levi— Jamaican-born Canada-based reggae act Exco Levi has added another accolade to his growing list. His award-winning track Welcome the King has been included in the soundtrack of the Canadian film Camelion. According to the artist he is pleased to have contributed his work to this latest project. “I am happy to have my music included in the film Camelion. The storyline is something I’m a little familiar with, which is coming to a new country and trying to make it.  Exco Levi– CANADA’S reggae market has been growing steadily over the years with Jamaicans and their descendants working to take the music to that market. However, the artists in that market have never been able to cross over into the home market in Jamaica and make a name for themselves on the Rock. It’s also about the tension of artists trying to succeed in both Canada and in the reggae universe with Jamaica as its axis. Most of all, unsurprisingly, it’s tied to Jamaican people in Canada. Jamaicans came to Toronto in large numbers in the 50s and 60s, and since then have somewhat determined the tenor of Toronto’s black community while spreading their music to a multicultural fan base in Toronto, all the while maintaining possession of it. From their earliest sets at the JamWorld Complex in Portmore on Friday night, it was clear that the reggae acts were determined not to be outdone. They put in workman-like performances to earn the respect of the tough Sting crowd.
