DJ FLOURGON, A VETERAN OF THE 80’s, IS BACK ON THE TRAIL!

BY KEVIN JACKSON—  Flourgon— IN the late 1980’s, Flourgon had a number of hit songs, making him one of the period’s most successful deejays. He is hoping to reclaim some of that dominance with his new single, the self-produced You Got Me Talking. The song is released on his Sweet Love Records imprint. “I’m still recording, still doing shows overseas. I have a lot of shows in Europe this summer; I will be going on tour with Sanchez,” Flourgon told the Jamaica Observer. REMEMBERING RED DRAGON!

 Red Dragon (Photo: Reggaeville)— THE community of Whitehall Avenue along the Red Hills Road in St Andrew was arguably the hottest spot in 1980’s dancehall. Deejay Red Dragon was one of the artists responsible for that. Red Dragon (given name Leroy May) died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on July 31 at age 49. His older brother, deejay Michael ‘Flourgon’ May, told the Jamaica Observer that Red Dragon had been admitted to hospital the previous day. Flourgon did not give the cause of death, but said ‘Dragon’ had suffered from hyptertension and heart problems. “The last time I si him was three weeks ago, an’ him neva feel good. RED DRAGON OF “HOL A FRESH” FAME DIES AT 49!

Veteran Jamaican deejay Red Dragon has died. The deejay, known for the hit single, Hol A Fresh, died in hospital after being ill for sometime. Red Dragon, whose real name is, Leroy May, was born March 18, 1966, was most popular in the 1980’s. He deejayed with several sound systems in the early 1980s, including Barrington Hi Fi, Stone Love, People’s Choice, and his own Rambo Mango, initially working under the name Redman. His early recordings included ‘Computer’ for producer Charlie Chaplin and ‘Nah Get Nutten’ for Harry J. His first big hit  was ‘Hol a Fresh’ for Winston Riley. He went on to record for King Tubby and King Jammy, and in 1989 his debut album was released, a split LP with his brother, the deejay Flourgon.
