“TO MOM WITH LOVE” RETURNS TO KINGSTON MAY 8!

 The Main Ingredient: (from left) Donald Black, Cuba Gooding Sr and Gregory Henderson.– AFTER a one-year absence from the Jamaican concert calendar, Mother’s Day show — To Mom With Love — returns on Sunday, May 8. According to promoter Marvin ‘Horseman’ Pitterson, patrons are in for a wonderful evening of music. “We’ve booked American R&B groups Main Ingredient and The Three Degrees as headliners,” he told the Sunday Observer on Friday. “We chose them because we wanted two groups that never performed in Jamaica before. They also have a whole heap of hit songs that will keep patrons entertained.”   The Main Ingredient is best known for their 1972 hit Everybody Plays the Fool. VETERAN SINGER/SONGWRITER ERNIE SMITH, IS GRATEFUL FOR HIS JaRIA AWARD!

BY RICHARD JOHNSON—  Ernie Smith— FOR a second year, singer and songwriter Ernie Smith is being recognized by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) at their honor awards. And, like last year, he’ll be unable to attend. Smith, 71, is being lauded for his exceptional contribution as a songwriter. The ceremony is slated for the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston on Saturday, February 28. “I was like oh man! It’s the second time and I can’t make the show. But I am so grateful and just want to thank JaRIA for considering me. Gem Myers performing with Fab Five in 2007— By Carl Gilchrist– It’s hard to accept that Gem Myers’ biggest hit, One Man Woman, was done all of 30 years ago when she was a teenager. It could be seen as a rebuttal to songs of that era by male artistes who glorified having simultaneous relationships with several women. It was released three years after Myers made a life-changing link with the Fabulous Five Band. “I still work with the Fab Five entity,” Myers told Entertainment Avenue. “I mean, when I landed there in 1981, that was the biggest blessing in my life.
