But Garfield Reid, by the encouragement of a few in the gospel music fraternity, has chosen to close his ears and stay on the path of righteousness. “There’s a lot of politics within gospel music,” Reid revealed to THE WEEKEND STAR. “Sometimes, it’s not all it’s summed up to be,” the artist said dejectedly. Reid’s career began when he won the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Song Festival in 2007 with the song Signs Of The Time. Sister Scully— From today until Sunday, June 15, several of the top gospel acts from Trinidad and Jamaica will take the stage at the inaugural Caribbean Gospel Escape (CGE). It is billed as a weekend festival of live music, cultural exchange and exotic meals spanning Montego Bay, Mandeville and Kingston. Hosted by the outreach ministry, A Betta Tomorrow, the three-day summer tour’s format is established acts bringing their musical style and culture, along with their home islands’ culinary treats, to the cities they visit.
