THE RITA MARLEY FOUNDATION TO HONOR FAB 5’s ASTLEY “GRUB” COOPER!

By Shereita Grizzle— Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper Dr Rita Marley and the Rita Marley Foundation (JA) will be honoring master vocalist, musical arranger, producer and drummer Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper for his contributions to Jamaica’s musical heritage. Rosemary Duncan, manager at the Rita Marley Foundation (JA), praised Cooper for his contributions to the country’s growing musical heritage. “Grub has undoubtedly made immeasurable contributions to Jamaica’s music and culture. For this reason, Dr Marley and the foundation find him most deserving of this inaugural award,” she said. ETANA’S FOURTH ALBUM “I RISE” DROPS ON OCTOBER 18!

   By Howard Campbell—  Etana– ETANA’s fourth album, I Rise, is scheduled for release on October 18 by VP Records. It hears the singer working with respected producer Clive Hunt. While she says the 15-track set shows growth as a person and artiste, Etana shares songwriting credits this time around. Fab Five stalwart Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper, C Sharp band members Dwain ‘Wire’ Campbell and Aeion Hoilette, and Serita Lewis contributed songs to I Rise. Having done the lion’s share of writing on her previous albums including last year’s Better Tomorrow, Etana says it was good to collaborate on her latest. “You get different vibes and different sounds from different people,” she said. GRUB COOPER, DRUMMER/SONGWRITER/LEAD VOCALIST FOR THE FAB FIVE BAND, ESCAPES INJURIES IN MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT!

Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper– By Gareth Davis— Port Antonio, Portland: Astley ‘Grub’ Cooper, renowned songwriter, composer, drummer and vocalist of the Fabulous Five Incorporated Band, escaped injury in a two-vehicle collision along the Boundbrook road in Port Antonio, Portland, yesterday morning. The crash took place shortly after 10:30. According to the police, Cooper was a passenger in a Toyota Rav4 travelling towards Port Antonio. The vehicle collided with a Suzuki Vitara, which was travelling in the opposite direction. A number of persons reportedly rushed to assist the occupants of both vehicles, fearing that there were serious injuries or fatalities. Although no one was seriously injured, Cooper, who was unscathed, was taken to the Port Antonio hospital for observation and later released.
