(Garfield Robinson)— Organizers of the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) Honor Awards stressed its importance Sunday at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston. “I just want to thank everyone that has stayed with the JaRIA awards for the past nine years,” said Ibo Cooper, JaRIA chairman. For Cooper, the strong turnout of artists and fans was a direct response to the clamoring for Jamaica’s version of the Grammy Awards. “THE DANCEHALL MASTER” GT TAYLOR TO BE HONORED BY THE JAMAICA REGGAE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (JaRIA) FEBRUARY 26!

George ‘GT’ Taylor, promoter of the GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza.— On February 26, the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) will recognize G.T. Taylor as a promoter for his Christmas Extravaganza, staged each Christmas Day in St Elizabeth. Known as The Dancehall Master, Taylor told The STAR that he is “elated”. “It shows me that if you do good work and believe in what you are doing, it will be rewarded. Whatever project you take up, if you believe in it, it will be rewarded, not only by man but God,” he added. Taylor thanked his wife, Carla, who has stuck with him through rough times with Extravaganza, which marked its 16th staging in December. CALIFORNIA-BASED ROOTS SINGER BOBBY TENNA, HEADS TO GT TAYLOR’S CHRISTMAS DAY SHOW IN BLACK RIVER!

 Bobby Tenna Singer Bobby Tenna will again connect with Jamaican fans when he performs at the Boom GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza at Luana Sports Club in St Elizabeth. The St James-born artiste has established himself on the northern California roots scene, but returns to Jamaica intermittently for shows. Bobby Tenna last performed in Jamaica in August at St Mary Mi Come From. “BOOM GT TAYLOR CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA” MOVES TO NEW VENUE FOR DECEMBER 25!

New venue, same vibes is the unofficial slogan for this year’s Boom GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza. For the first time in 15 years, the show will not be held at Independence Park in Black River, St. Elizabeth. It moves to the Luana Sports Complex, just a stone’s throw away from Independence Park. GT Taylor, founder and promoter of ‘Extravaganza’, said the change in venue resulted from differences with the St. Elizabeth Parish Council, proprietors of Independence Park. “They rented (the venue) to another event two days before our show without telling me. That’s extremely bad treatment considering we brought recognition to the venue,” said Taylor. The show’s 15th renewal took place on Christmas Day at Independence Park in Black River, St Elizabeth, and drew what Taylor described as a “really strong crowd”. “We’ve reached the point where we are now an event that can move a product or make a product.
