 Fitzroy Francis.— WHILE attending Kingston College in the early 1980’s, Fitzroy Francis got acquainted with the growing music scene in his Waterhouse community. A protege of Black Uhuru founder Duckie Simpson, Francis learned the ropes working with that group and Junior Reid, another Waterhouse talent. Five years ago, Francis launched Mightyful13 Records in New York City. “HEY JUDE” IS DOING IT FOR SINGER HUGH ENGLISH!

 Hugh English— RIDING high on the positive reception to his version of The Beatles classic 1968 song Hey Jude, singer Hugh English is confident 2016 is a watershed for his career. Hey Jude entered Broadcast/Journalist Clinton Lindsay’s New York Foundation Radio Network chart in New York and South Florida late last year. Its acoustic version, featuring veteran session guitarist Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, re-entered  that table recently, where it currently sits in the No.24 position. English told Splash that the song’s success transcends the charts. PRODUCER FITZROY FRANCIS LEADS THE WAY AT MIGHTYFUL 13 RECORDS!

 Roots act Andrew Bees (left) and Mightyful13 Records’ principal, Fitzroy Francis.— WHEN Fitzroy Francis started his record label just over four years ago, he wanted to revisit the songs he heard artists like Black Uhuru and Junior Reid made in their native Waterhouse. Francis is the man behind Mightyful13 Records, which works with mainly roots acts such as Andrew Bees and Hugh English. The latter’s cover of The Beatles’ Hey Jude is the fledgling company’s latest release. According to Francis, though he was weaned on roots-reggae, he embraces all facets of the music. “I was there when the music change in the mid-’80s during the computerise age so I am very much aware of diversity. “HEY JUDE” GIVES SINGER HUGH ENGLISH HIS FIRST CHART SUCCESS!

 Hugh English— Ever since his ‘youth days’ in Waterhouse, singer Hugh English was taken by the classic Beatles song, Hey Jude. Last year, he finally covered the sombre 1968 hit, one of many gems in the ‘Fab Four’s hallowed catalogue. “From mi was a juvenile mi love it, but mi used to sey ‘Hey June’. Is not till mi voice it dat (guitarist) Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith tell mi is Hey Jude,” said the dreadlocked English. HERE COMES SINGER HUGH ENGLISH!

  Jamaican Ras Tafari recording artist Donovan Hugh English, popularly known as “Hugh English” was born on November 12th, 1965, in Trench Town, Kingston 12. He grew up in the musical community of Waterhouse, Kingston 11 with his aunt. While growing up in Waterhouse, he met a lot of friends such as singer Andrew Bees (lead singer of Reggae’s first Grammy winning Black Uhuru), the late Wayne “Sleng Teng”Smith, Hugh Mundell, singers Junior Reid, Half Pint, King Everald, and “Dub Inventor” the late great King Tubbys, just to name a few. He then migrated back to his original community Trench Town to pursue music,and started his professional career in 2012 with the recording of various singles like “Sufferation”, and “Muss Buss” on his own Trench Town International Music label.
