FIFTEEN YEARS SINCE THE DIWALI RIDDIM!

BY KEVIN JACKSON—  Steven “Lenky” Marsden — The success of the Diwali rhythm changed the life of producer Steven “Lenky” Marsden. The beat, which was released in early 2002, recently celebrated 15 years.“I intentionally set out to do something different, to make a ‘riddim’ that was special and did not sound like everything out at the time. The actual beat was made in 1998, it evolved from that time until its eventual release. The changes and tweaks came through exposure to different cultures and sounds through touring,” Marsden told the Sunday Observer. Despite his intention, he said he never envisioned that the Diwali ryhthm would’ve been successful. “No, not even in my wildest dreams. IS REGGAE DEAD? HAVE TECHNOLOGY AND MATERIALISM REPLACED MUSICIANSHIP AND HUMAN RIGHTS?

Reggae is Dead, Who Killed Jah Music? Technology and materialism have replaced musicianship and human rights—what’s left is lifeless and soulless By Steve J. When, exactly, did reggae music cease to exist? Think about that for a moment: the musical revolution from a tiny island in the Caribbean — one that united Rastafarians and punk rockers, hippies and rude boys — is dead. And it has been for a long time. But when, exactly? And why? The first question is easier to pinpoint; the second more complicated and convoluted.
