PRODUCER PAUL-LOWE CHIN REMEMBERS JIMMY RILEY!

 It is 10 years since Paul Lowe-Chin first met singer Jimmy Riley at Mixing Lab studio in Kingston. Had Riley been alive, he is sure they would have celebrated the milestone. “Wi used to hang out a lot, go dance an’ listen music. Jimmy was jus’ a great guy,” said Lowe-Chin. Riley died of cancer on March 23 in New York at age 68. The father of singer Tarrus Riley, he had a 47-year career that started with the Sensations and The Uniques vocal groups. Lowe-Chin produced Contradiction, Riley’s last studio album for his Chiney K Records. It was released in 2013 by VP Records. Riley was still recording in the months up to his death. By Brian Bonitto—    THE celebration of the life of reggae singer Jimmy Riley is slated for Webster Memorial United Church on Half-Way- Tree Road, St Andrew, on Wednesday, April 6. Start time is 1:00 pm. Saxophonist and close family friend Dean Fraser said the occasion is “not a funeral”. “It’s a memorial, not a funeral… More of a celebration of his life. People attending are encouraged to wear bright colors or white,” he told the Jamaica Observer yesterday. “There’ll be lots of musical tributes,” he continued. KEBLE DRUMMOND GIVES A NEW SOUND TO A CLASSIC!

 Keble Drummond— In early 1967, an American-Canadian rock band named Buffalo Springfield entered the Billboard chart with their anti-war song named For What it’s Worth. Renamed Watch This Sound, a rocksteady version was also a big hit that year for Jamaican group, the Uniques. At the time, singer Keble Drummond was a member of the Cables, a harmony trio at producer Clement ‘Coxson’ Dodd’s Studio One.Known as Keble Cables, he recently covered the song for Fort Lauderdale independent company, Upstairs Music, and producer Danny Breakenridge. The 68-year-old Drummond, who lives in South Florida, says he was among the many admirers of Keith ‘Slim’ Smith, the Uniques talented lead singer. SINGER JIMMY RILEY HOSPITALIZED AFTER CONTRACTING THE CHIK-V VIRUS, ACCORDING TO PUBLISHED REPORT!

  By André Williams— Veteran reggae, lovers-rock singer Jimmy Riley, who is also the father of Tarrus Riley, is terribly ill and remains hospitalised three weeks after being admitted for an undisclosed illness after contracting chik-V. THE STAR understands that there is no clear indication when the elder Riley is scheduled to be released from hospital as his current state is said to require regular monitoring by doctors. Riley’s latest studio album, Contradictions, was released in September 2013 by VP Records and features son Tarrus, Sizzla and Fanton Mojah. Efforts by THE STAR to speak to a member of the family proved futile. It is unclear who currently manages the elder Riley, who, up to a few months ago, was still actively touring and performing at gigs locally and internationally.
