LEGENDARY PRODUCER BUNNY LEE’S GORGON STUDIO GOES UP IN SMOKE!

 By Simone Morgan—  Veteran producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee points to a section of his studio that was destroyed by fire earlier this month. LEGENDARY music producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee’s Gorgon Entertainment Studio was destroyed by fire on March 9. According to the producer, all his music equipment valued at almost $100 million was lost in the blaze. The building, located in Duhaney Park in St Andrew, also houses a museum that contains Lee’s music archive. That section was spared. In an interview with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, Lee said his engineer Newton Williams was at the studio when the fire broke out. WHEN THE KING BOB MARLEY “CROWNED” THE PRINCE DENNIS BROWN!

 By Howard Campbell—-  Bob Marley and Dennis Brown— ALAN ‘Skill’ Cole remembers walking with Bob Marley along the intersection of Beeston Street and Chancery Lane in downtown Kingston, circa 1972, when Marley drew his attention to a teenaged boy coming down the lane. “Him (Marley) sey to mi, ‘Alan, a da likkle boy dey name Dennis Brown. Him can sing!'” Cole recalled. Marley’s Tuff Gong record shop was located in the area, then a hub for the growing reggae industry. Brown grew up at nearby Orange Street. Marley and his group The Wailers were poised for an international breakthrough. Fifteen-year-old Brown was the boy wonder of reggae. JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES 2015 KICKS OFF TONIGHT WITH A TRIBUTE TO JOHN HOLT!

  Judy Mowatt for opening night.— FLORENCE HALL, Trelawny — Veteran deejay Josey Wales, singers George Nooks, Judy Mowatt and Oscar B are among the performers slated to perform at the kick-off of Jamaica Jazz and Blues 2015 tonight. Other acts on tonight’s line-up include singers Errol Dunkley, Cornell Campbell and vocal group The Tamlins, all backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band. Each act will dedicate part of their sets to the late John Holt who died last year. On the issue of paking and security commander of the Trelawny Police Division, Superintendent Wilford Campbell, said that the police are ready to provide safety for patrons and monitor the expected large traffic at the Trelawny Stadium tonight. THE JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL TO HONOR JOHN HOLT JANUARY 29!

John Holt—– ORGANISERS of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival have tapped some of reggae music’s finest to present a tribute to late singer John Holt. The festival is scheduled for the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium from January 29-31. The tribute, however, will be on the opening night. The line-up includes singers Errol Dunkley, George Nooks, Judy Mowatt, Cornell Campbell, vocal group The Tamlins, deejay Josey Wales and soca singer Oscar B, all backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band. Each act will dedicate part of their sets to Holt.   Holt hailed from Greenwich Town, a fishing community in Kingston, with a rich music heritage. SINCE the 1960s when he was a member of rocksteady group The Paragons, John Holt had a strong fan base in the United Kingdom. At the time of that trio’s dominant run, the UK had a growing Jamaican community, hungry for music from back home. When he went solo in the early 1970s, Holt recorded profusely for a number of producers including Clement Dodd, Duke Reid, Bunny Lee, Harry Mudie, and Phil Pratt.
