SINGER JOHN LEGEND TO PLAY FREDERICK DOUGLASS IN NEW TV SERIES, “UNDERGROUND!”

 John Legend— ATLANTA (AP) — Grammy-winning singer John Legend will play an iconic runaway slave-turned abolitionist on WGN America ’s drama series Underground. Sony Pictures Television and WGN announced in a statement Friday that Legend will guest star as Frederick Douglass. Legend also serves as an executive producer of the series, which delves into the challenges and dangers for slaves during their journey on the Underground Railroad. The second season is expected to premiere early next year. Episodes are being filmed in Savannah, Georgia, for the first time since moving production from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The series stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Alano Miler and Christopher Meloni. Douglass is one of the many historical figures featured on the series. Platinum selling Jamaican recording artist Jack Radics has been added to a stellar lineup of performers who will headline Harry Belafonte’s   ‘Many Rivers To Cross’  Music and Arts Festival on October 1- 2. The festival will be held in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, and will promote advocacy and awareness of social justice issues. Radics will join fellow musicians Carlos Santana, John Legend and Common along with actors Jamie Foxx, Jesse Williams, Danny Glover and Chris Rock for the eagerly anticipated event.
