VETERAN DJ JOHNNY P KEEPS HIS PASSION ABLAZE!

BY KEVIN JACKSON—-  Johnny P—- LIKE many of his contemporaries, old-school deejay Johnny P bemoans the lack of airplay and the limited recording opportunities. The one-time dancehall toaster, who shot to fame in the late 1980’s, recently started his One House Production label. “Getting producers to voice you is one thing and getting your songs played is another thing. We started the label to do things independently instead of relying on others,” Johnny P told the Jamaica Observer. DJ TIGER GIVES OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN FIRST OUTDOOR CONCERT IN NEW YORK CITY IN 22 YEARS!

Veteran dancehall DJ Tiger, who over the Labor Day weekend made his first outdoor festival appearance in NY since he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident 22 years ago, proved that a cat does indeed have nine lives. The DJ was one of more than a dozen dancehall stars who performed at the successful Irie Jam Radio 22nd anniversary concert which was held at Roy Wilkins Park in NY. Tiger, working alongside Johnny P was unstoppable.  His opening salvo earned the biggest ovation of the festival!  The DJ reintroduced himself to fans roaring, “No wanga gut, no wanga belly…nyamy nyamy. No licky licky, no nyamy nyamy” and the old Cat was back. By Marlon Burrell— There have been many reports of dancehall artist Tiger’s demise and failed comebacks since he had a near fatal motorcycle accident in 1994. When word came this past summer that there was a tour scheduled with Anthony Malvo, Johnny P, and Admiral Bailey among others, there was some genuine excitement from the public about seeing Tiger. The buzz was more about seeing him and the curiosity about his ability to perform on stage than genuine anticipation of his performance.
