AN ORDER OF DISTINCTION AWARD, A NEW ALBUM, A VALENTINE’S CONCERT FOR REGGAE LEGEND GREGORY ISAACS!

(Joseph Wellington) AN album of unreleased songs from Gregory Isaacs and a Valentine’s Day theme show are on the cards in 2017 for the late singer’s estate. His widow, June Isaacs, told the Jamaica Observer that the album will be distributed by Tads International Record, the independent label her husband had a long relationship with. In February, a live show dubbed ‘Red Rose For Gregory’ is scheduled for Kingston. American Rhythm & Blues group Atlantic Starr will be the featured act alongside harmony quartet LUST. June Isaacs said the album and show are just two of the projects to help keep ‘The Cool Ruler’s legacy vibrant. LONDON TO AWARD A “BLUE PLAQUE” TO GREGORY ISAACS’ FORMER RESIDENCE!

 LOVERS’ rock giant Gregory Isaacs, who had a massive following in England, will be honored with a Blue Plaque at the house in which he died in London six years ago. The plaque will be dedicated at 59 Weald Lane, Harrow, his widow June Isaacs told the Sunday Observer. “This mean’s a lot…I feel honored, very proud that Gregory has joined his predecessors Bob Marley and Dennis Brown being awarded his own Blue Plaque,” she said. The symbolic Blue Plaque has been placed at homes of famous people in Britain since the late 19th century. Among them are Marley, Brown, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, poet Lord Byron, and authors Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson.  Isaacs was 60 when he died from cancer. GREGORY ISAACS…ORDER OF DISTINCTION, OFFICER CLASS!

The ‘Cool Ruler’, who died in October 2010, has been awarded the Order of Distinction (officer class) by the Jamaican Government for his contribution to the country’s music. The Sunday Observer caught up with the singer’s widow June, who is delighted that her husband’s achievements have been recognized. “I really want to thank the Government for recognizing his contribution to Jamaica. I really saw this one coming as I know he did a lot and was dedicated to what he did. Gregory would be overjoyed,” she said, describing him as a “true gentleman and a wonderful husband”. THE GREGORY ISAACS FOUNDATION GIVES TO CHILDREN CHARITY!

The Gregory Isaacs Foundation donated several item of clothing and food to the children’s home.— The Gregory Isaacs Foundation recently presented gift packages of several clothing and food items to children’s home, Walker’s Place of Safety in Kingston. This is one of several charities to which the foundation of the late entertainer, dubbed the Cool Ruler, has been contributing since the early 1980’s. “This charity was started by Gregory [Isaacs] and we are following through. We’re always on a collection drive. These stuff were brought from abroad,” June Isaacs, widow of the lovers’ rock artist told the Jamaica Observer. THE GREGORY ISAACS FOUNDATION GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!

 Gregory Isaacs— THE Gregory Isaacs Foundation donated a gift package to the Walker’s Place of Safety in Kingston last Wednesday. The items were purchased with proceeds from ‘Hat Affair’, the annual show celebrating the singer’s birthday in June. Among the items presented to Grace Allen, manager at Walker’s Place of Safety, were food, books and clothing. “We just took over from him all the charities he (Gregory Isaacs) supported,” said Colin Leslie, chairman of the Gregory Isaacs Foundation.
