VETERAN MUSICIAN GLADSTONE “GLADDY” ANDERSON DIES AT 81!

 Gladdy Anderson— Gladstone ‘Gladdy’ Anderson, a prolific musician who made his mark in the rocksteady era, died on December 3 at age 81. Kingsley Goodison, Anderson’s close friend, told the Jamaica Observer that he passed away but did not disclose the cause of death. A keyboardist, Anderson mainly worked as a session musician for producer Arthur ‘Duke’ Reid’s Treasure Isle label where he started his career in the late 1950s. In the 1960s, Anderson was a member of several high-profile bands including the Jets, Harry J All Stars, Supersonics and the Dynamites.Some of his bandmates included saxophonist Tommy McCook, guitarist Lynn Taitt, bassist Jackie Jackson and organist Winston Wright.  Kingsley Goodison— ON October 19, Kingsley Goodison plans to go to King’s House for the annual National Honors and Awards ceremony. The artists and musicians being recognized by the Jamaican government hold a special place for him. Goodison is founder of Tribute To The Greats, an annual event that honors Jamaica’s music stalwarts including Nyahbinghi drummer Ras Michael, who receives the Order of Distinction from the government on Monday. Two months after he staged the 18th ‘Tribute’, Goodison is bemoaning its lack of sponsorship. “It’s been very tough since the inception, God bless what we get but we push on ’cause Tribute To The Greats has done a lot to re-expose artists and people Jamaicans don’t know anything about,” he told the Observer.
