PAM HALL, LEROY SIBBLES, HALF PINT, AND ERIC DONALDSON TO PERFORM FOR CHARITY IN NAIROBI, KENYA!

Reggae stars for library charity in Kenya  Pam Hall—- Eric Donaldson, Pam Hall, Half Pint and Leroy Sibbles are currently in Nairobi, Kenya for a charity show, funds from which will be used to build libraries in the East African country. According to the Kenya Star, the quartet is scheduled to perform on the Rise Up Festival Saturday at Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi. The two libraries will be built in the cities of Kibera and Bondo. The Kenyan Star reported that Donaldson, Hall, Sibbles and Half Pint were recruited by the Having Purpose organisation to perform on the inaugural event.  Kenya is one of the vibrant markets for Jamaican artistes in Africa. The 10-track album was produced by the group’s leader and founding member Earl Morgan. “This album will prove that the Heptones is still going strong and we are here to stay. VETERAN SINGER LEROY BROWN, COVERS A CLASSIC!

 Leroy Brown— RELEASED in 1964, Tom Paxton’s ballad The Last Thing on My Mind has earned its ‘classic’ tag. It has been covered by several Jamaican artists, the latest being Leroy Brown. The veteran singer’s self-produced version was recently released on his Caturna label. While he is familiar with the original, Brown said it was one of the covers that grabbed him. “Is a song a love from the 70s when Delroy (Wilson) did it. It’s a beautiful song, a jus’ hope I did it justice,” he told the Jamaica Observer. Brown’s version features Sly and Robbie, the Firehouse Crew’s Paul ‘Wrong Move’ Crosdale on guitar and keyboard and keyboardist Bobby Kalphat.  It is expected to be part of his latest album, True Confessions, which will be released later this year. HEINEKEN STARTIME CONCERT SERIES TO RETURN WITH NEW NAME IN JANUARY!

 Michael Barnett— Startime, the live show credited with sparking the rocksteady revival of the 1990s, returns in early January. Michael Barnett, who started the event as Heineken Startime in June 1988, told the Jamaica Observer that details of the show will be announced soon. Startime was last held in September 2013 at Mas Camp in Kingston. “Since Startime ended as an annual series of concerts in 2007, vintage artistes and musicians really have no platform in Jamaica to consistently expose their music, stage craft and talents …. and they still have a major role to play in the big picture,” said Barnett.
