VETERAN MUSICIAN LLOYD PARKES PRESENTS A BASS GUITAR TO KINGSTON’S PEMBROKE HALL HIGH SCHOOL!

WINNERS of the inaugural Jamaica Best School Band (JBSB) Competition, Pembroke Hall High School, are the recipients of a new bass guitar from veteran bassist Lloyd Parkes. The presentation was made recently at the school’s Kingston location. Parkes, who started the We The People Band in 1974, was one of the competition’s judges. He urged the school band to keep practising and be disciplined. The 16-member Positive Vibrations (name of the Pembroke Hall band) won the JBSB competition in May at the Countryside Club. Cornwall College, Dinthill Technical High School and Wolmer’s Boys School, finished runners-up, third and fourth, respectively. … Read entire article »

THE 5TH ANNUAL DENNIS BROWN CONCERT TAKES PLACE IN KINGSTON, FEBRUARY 23!

  KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JARIA) says that this year’s 5th Annual Dennis Brown Concert will take place on the Kingston Waterfront, on Sunday, February 23 starting at 5:00pm. The concert will feature “some of the biggest names in reggae music, all performing for free, in paying tribute and continuing the love and respect for the reggae icon who died on July 1, 1999” He was 42 years old.
