REBEL SALUTE 2016 GETS “MARIJUANA EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE” FROM THE GOVERNMENT FOR JANUARY 15/16!

By Mel Cooke— Tony Rebel (left) accepts the official marijuana exemption certification for Rebel Salute 2016 from Justice Minister Senator Mark Golding (third left) at Thursday’s official launch of the event held at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, New Kingston.— REBEL SALUTE 2016, which will be held at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove, Priory in St Ann, on January 15 and 16, has been declared an exempt event under the Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act, 2015. It will be the second event held in Jamaica which has been granted the exemption. The first, Rastafari Rootzfest, was held in Negril, Westmoreland, from November 12 – 15 this year.   Cabinet approves bill to decriminalise possession of small amounts of ganja Justice Minister Mark Golding says the Cabinet has approved a bill to decriminalise the possession of small amounts of ganja. The bill was brought to the Cabinet on Monday. It proposes to erase the records of people convicted for possession of ganja weighing two ounces or less, and those, who may, in the future be held with a similar quantity of the weed. Senator Golding says drafting instructions have now been issued to the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel. Under the proposed changes it will become a ticketable infraction that will attract a fine which offenders can pay outside the court system.
