The two-minute-and-eight-second video entitled Brad Pitt reads Marlon James was part of The New York Times Style Magazine’s package recently. “Dead people never stopped talking. Maybe because death is not death at all, just a detention after school. You know where you’re coming from and always returning from it. JAMAICA’S MARLON JAMES WINS THE BOOKER PRIZE FOR BOOK ON BOB MARLEY!

 Marlon James (Photo: AP)– Marlon James became the first Jamaican winner of the prestigious Booker Prize for fiction Tuesday with a vivid, violent, exuberant, and expletive-laden novel based on the attempted assassination of Bob Marley. Michael Wood, chairman of the judging panel, said “A Brief History of Seven Killings” was “the most exciting book on the list” and a novel full of the “sheer pleasure” of language. “One of the pleasures of reading it is you turn the page and you are not sure who the next narrator will be,” said Wood, a professor emeritus of English at Princeton University. He said the book had been the unanimous choice of the five judges. CABLE GIANT HBO BUYS THE RIGHTS TO BOOK BY JAMAICAN AUTHOR MARLON JAMES!

Written by Staff Writer/Jamaicans.com—- The Bookseller reported today that HBO has optioned screen rights to Marlon James novel, A Brief History of Seven Killings, for a series adaptation.  The books tells the story of the attempted assassination of a popular Jamaican singer and its aftermath. Most believe “the singer” is Bob Marley even though his name is not mentioned.  The book’s primary setting is a violent period in Jamaica in the 1970s and early 80s, when guns were flooding in and CIA agents had a presence on the island. HBO plans to produce an ongoing series from the book. Award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, who has been very successful in adapting books into screenplays, will be penning the script for the series. A Brief History of Seven Killings is Marlon James’ third novel. His debut novel John Crow’s Devil and  second novel The Book of Night Women were both published in 2010.   … Read entire article »
