PATRICIA CHIN OF VP RECORDS GETS A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!

 Pat Chin (second left) Patricia ‘Miss Pat’ Chin, widow of Vincent Chin and co-founder of VP Records, received the Lifetime Achievement Award Thursday night at the Libera Awards in New York. Chin is the first female recipient of the award, presented by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). She gave an emotional acceptance speech at the Highline Ballroom. “I am honored to be the first female to receive such a prestigious award. Words cannot truly convey my feelings. REGGAE FINDING ITS GROOVE IN CUBA!

Many travel experts expect the entertainment and lifestyle scenes there to explode once the US normalizes relations with the Communist country. That could be this year. Jamaica is Cuba’s closest neighbor, so it seems inevitable will have a presence there. From May 18-22, the exhibition, ‘Bob Marley Time Will Tell’, took place at Casa De Las Americas, in Havana, Cuba’s capital. VP’S PAT CHIN TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!

   Pat Chin—- PAT Chin, matriarch of Randy’s and VP Records, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at next month’s A2IM’s Libera Awards. The event takes place June 25 at Highline Ballroom in New York City. The ‘Lifetime’ is among the top accolades at the Libera Awards, which recognises the year’s top independent music label achievers. Chin founded VP with her husband Vincent in 1979. They previously operated Randy’s in downtown Kingston. Vincent Chin died in 2003. VP is the largest independent distributor of dancehall/reggae. Based in Queens, the company has released numerous albums by dancehall’s elite including Beres Hammond, Beenie Man and Sean Paul. Chin… shot dead August 16, 2011— By Jovan Johnson– KINGSTON, Jamaica:– Three years after the shocking murder of music producer, Joel Chin, police investigators are yet to make a breakthrough and his mother, Juliet, says everyday she relives the horror of the August 16, 2011. Joel was the grandson of Pat and Vincent Chin, the founders of international Reggae label, VP Records. At the time of his killing, the 35-year-old producer was the VP’s Artiste and Repertoire department. Chin was shot and killed as he drove into the driveway of his Stony Hill apartment in St Andrew.
