JAMAICANS GO TO THE POLLS ON FEBRUARY 25, PRIME MINISTER PORTIA SIMPSON MILLER ANNOUNCES!

Jamaicans will go to the polls on February 25, 2016. Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller made the announcement  at a People’s National Party (PNP) mass rally in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew. Nomination day is set for Tuesday, February 9. This will be the country’s 17th general election since Universal Adult Suffrage in 1944 and the PNP leader’s second time making the announcement.  Seeking her own mandate, Simpson Miller in 2007 sent Jamaicans to the polls on August 27. The PNP went on to lose to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) having secured 27 of the 60 seats in Parliament. Four years on, Simpson Miller is seeking to make this election the PNP’s 10th win. JAPAN’S PRIME MINISTER SHINZO ABE VISITS THE BOB MARLEY MUSEUM!

 Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today visited the famous Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road in Kingston, after arriving in Jamaica. THE UK TO BUILD A £25-m PRISON IN JAMAICA!

The United Kingdom is expected to construct a prison in the country to house foreign criminals being deported to live out their sentences in Jamaica. The BBC said £25-million is expected to be spent on the facility. British Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed this at Jamaica House a short while ago. The project, the BBC said, is in an effort to break the impasse in negotiations over a prisoner transfer deal between Jamaica and the UK. It is estimated that more than 600 Jamaican nationals are currently serving sentences in UK jails. The deal is expected to save taxpayers £10m a year when transfers begin in 2020. Portia Simpson Miller—-   By Arthur Hall— For the first time in almost two decades of doing polls in Jamaica, pollster Bill Johnson has found that more Jamaicans have an unfavorable opinion of People’s National Party (PNP) president Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller than those who view her in a favourable light. In the latest Gleaner-commissioned Johnson poll, 39 per cent of Jamaicans indicated that they have a favorable opinion of SimpsonMiller, while 43 per cent said they viewed the charismatic and usually well-loved veteran politician in an unfavourable light. “I have been polling here since 1996 and never has she been under water.
