IS THE JAMAICA FILM FESTIVAL FOR SEPTEMBER CANCELED?

Bottom: Renee Robinson– THE second staging of the Jamaica Film Festival, set for September this year, seems to have hit a snag and will not take place this year. The event — which was first held in July last year — an initiative of the then film commissioner Carole Beckford, was to be repeated this year. However, when new film commissioner Renee Robinson took up that post in February of this year, it was announced that the July staging of the festival was being shifted to align the local festival with the international film festival calendar. THE SECOND ANNUAL JAMAICA FILM FESTIVAL IS MOVED TO AN OCTOBER DATE!

THE second staging of the Jamaica Film Festival has been shifted to October from its original July date. This is among the new initiatives by newly appointed film commissioner Renee Robinson. She explained to Splash that the reasoning behind the shift is to make the event more accessible to members of the international film community.  “We want to ensure that our festival is aligned with the international film festival circuit, offering all players in the industry — distributors, executives, financiers, etc — an opportunity to attend.
