South Florida reggae artist, Adam Teacha Barnes, with the help of producer/bassist Tuviel Levi, reached out to invite noted San Francisco Bay area jazz saxophonist Richard Howell to join him on his latest release, “Thing Goin’ On”. Producers Levi and Dennis Dreadstone wanted a hybrid, international vibe for the track, and the addition of Howell’s sax stylings seemed a natural to achieve their goal. Howell’s powerful, sensually melodic saxophone playing has been heard with artists as diverse and definitive as blues/jazz/soul legends Etta James, Chaka Khan, Maurice White, Narada Michael Walden, Della Reese, Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Bernard Purdie, Buddy Guy, Regina Carter, Jimmy Smith, and Bill Summer, but this may be his first collaboration on a straight up reggae project.
