ALL IS SET FOR THE RITA MARLEY FOUNDATION ESSAY COMPETITION!

THE RITA MARLEY FOUNDATION HAS STARTED A “CULTURAL STORYTELLING PROGRAM” FOR SCHOOLS IN JAMAICA!

In fulfilling its slogan, Harambe, which means ‘working together’, the Rita Marley Foundation (JA) and renowned Jamaican storyteller Amina Blackwood Meeks have embarked on a Cultural Storytelling Programme for basic schools. The first session was held on January 12 at the Holy Trinity Basic School, Maxfield Avenue, St Andrew. The institution is operated by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The programme aims to develop creativity, enhance imagination, increase attentiveness and improve communication skills. RITA MARLEY GETS DOCTOR OF LETTERS DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES!

 By Shereita Grizzle— Rita Marley—–  The Marley family matriarch, Rita Marley, was recently conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of the West Indies, Mona (UWI). The presentation was made during UWI’s graduation ceremony on Sunday. The widow of the late reggae singer, Bob Marley, will now be referred to as Dr. Alfarita Marley (DLITT). THE RITA MARLEY FOUNDATION LAUNCHES SCHOOL PEN-PAL IN JAMAICA AND GHANA!

  Rita Marley—  The Rita Marley Foundation is nurturing positive friendships between children in Jamaica and Ghana, West Africa. On October 8, the Rita Marley Foundation (Jamaica and Ghana) launched a student letter-exchange (pen pal) program for students at the Holy Trinity Basic School on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston, and Konkonuru Methodist Basic School in Ghana. Marley adopted the Konkonuru Basic School in 2000 when she was named Nana Afua Adobea I (Queen of Development) for the community of Konkonuru. Rosemary Duncan, manager of the Rita Marley Foundation Jamaica, said the foundation implemented the program as a fun and innovative way for the little ones to learn about other cultures; practices communication skills, and acquire a foreign language. Promoter Rich Engler By Tony Atkins–— When music promoter Rich Engler booked Bob Marley and the Wailers for a 1980 show in downtown Pittsburgh, he already knew that the 16-song set he’d booked for was going to one of Marley’s best. What he didn’t know was that he’d also be booking one of Marley’s last.
