“MY GRAMMY NOMINATION IS A REPRESENTATION OF REGGAE AS A GLOBAL MUSICAL FORCE” SAYS ROCKY DAWUNI!

Rocky Dawuni’s latest album, Branches of the Same Tree was nominated for a GRAMMY® for Best Reggae Album. Dawuni is the first musician from Ghana to ever receive a GRAMMY® nomination. He is also only the second African to be nominated in this category. Rocky Dawuni was nominated alongside modern Jamaican music greats Luciano, Barrington Levy, Jah Cure and Morgan Heritage who took home the GRAMMY® award. Dawuni stated,“Much like the blues, reggae is the root of so much popular music. I am proud to contribute to its grand tradition and legacy. BY KEVIN JACKSON—  Rocky Dawuni—-  THE 58th Grammy Awards takes place this evening at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Who will take home the award for Best Reggae Album? Nominees are The Cure by Jah Cure (VP Records); Branches of The Same Tree by Rocky Dawuni (Cumbancha Records); Acousticalevy by Barrington Levy (Doctor Dread Presents); Zion Awake by Luciano (VP Records); and Strictly Roots by Morgan Heritage (CTBC Music Group). Industry insiders predict Jah Cure or Barrington Levy could take home the prize.  The Cure is the first nomination for Jah Cure. It has sold the most copies among the nominees, with more than 13,000 copies bought since its release in July. The Grammy committee, however, is not swayed by sales figures. MEET GHANA’S GRAMMY NOMINATED REGGAE SINGER ROCKY DAWUNI!

 By Kevin Jackson—  Rocky Dawuni—- Ghanaian singer Rocky Dawuni achieved a career milestone last Sunday when his Branches of The Same Tree was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. It goes up against albums by Barrington Levy, Jah Cure, Morgan Heritage and Luciano. “It is a truly uplifting experience to be nominated for a Grammy. I am humbled by this symbolic recognition of African reggae,” Dawuni told the Jamaica Observer. “The ancestors of Jamaicans came mostly from Ghana and West Africa. As a Ghanaian musician the shared spiritual kinship brings it all back to our common roots in the Motherland.
