“IT’S TIME FOR ZIGGY MARLEY NOT TO ACCEPT THE REGGAE GRAMMY NOMINATION” SAYS ROGER STEFFENS!

BY RICHARD JOHNSON—  Ziggy Marley— Sunday’s win by Ziggy Marley for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards has ignited another wave of criticism. Over the years, the Grammy judges have been criticised whenever a Marley wins the Best Reggae Album category. Critics claim that if a Marley is in the category a win is assured, as voters are drawn to their late father, Bob Marley. Reggae historian and archivist Roger Steffens, who predicted that Marley would win his eighth Grammy, has weighed in on the discussion. He believes it is time for Ziggy Marley to decline a nomination for Best Reggae Album, therefore giving other acts a chance at winning. “If he (Ziggy Marley) is truly gracious, when he accepts it, he will announce that he will no longer accept a nomination for the … Read entire article »

NEW YORK-BASED DJ LINKAGE, URGES ARTISTS TO PERFORM FOR FREE AT STING 2016, DECEMBER 26!

Dexter Blake CEO Linkage Awards and Linkage Radio— Fearful that Jamaica could lose Sting, a staple on the dancehall calendar, a United States-based radio announcer has called for artists to perform for free at this year’s show. The announcer, DJ Linkage, who puts on the annual Linkage Awards in the US, made the call on Tuesday. He said that Sting is without major financial support from sponsors and that if artists perform for free it would be a major way of giving back to a show that has made a significant contribution to their careers. I’m calling out all artists to come and show appreciation to Sting on December 26, 2016, by waiving their fees to this show,” DJ Linkage said. As Shabba Ranks (Rexton Gordon) is about to be honored by the government of Jamaica with the Order of Distinction (OD) on Monday, October 17, for his outstanding contributions to music and to brand Jamaica, here is my true and accurate recollection of the beginning of his journey. It was a day in October 1987, I was running a bit behind schedule to catch my return flight to New York, I had my radio show on Thursday night/Friday morning. Usually, I would stop by the various record companies to get the latest releases. This particular Thursday afternoon I only had time to stop by one and I decided to make it Tuff Gong Records. I figured it was off Marcus Garvey Drive, and I could just jump on it and head … Read entire article »
