IT WAS PURE MUSICAL MAGIC AT THE RASTAFARI ROOTZ FEST IN NEGRIL!

THE ANNUAL “RASTAFARI ROOTZFEST FESTIVAL” FOR NEGRIL, DECEMBER 9 – 11!

(Garfield Robinson) THREE elements of Jamaican culture — Rastafari, reggae and ganja — will be on show at the December 9-11 Rastafari Rootzfest at Long Bay Beach Park in Negril. Last year, the inaugural festival was held as High Times Cannabis Cup. However, local organizers have since severed ties with High Times, the New York magazine which owns rights to the Cannabis Cup. According to organizers, the event is primarily aimed at mobilizing, educating and connecting players in Jamaica’s emerging ganja industry following an amendment to the Dangerous Drugs Act last year. Sister Carol converts the masses BY JARED RASIC— Reggae singer Sister Carol has been spreading the love for three decades. Sister Carol has been making reggae music longer than I have been alive, and her message is only getting stronger. Born in Denham Town in West Kingston, Jamaica, she immigrated to Brooklyn when she was 14. Her father was an engineer with Radio Jamaica, so music was in her blood for as long as she can remember. She released her first album, “Liberation for Africa,” in 1983, and her newest record is coming out this fall. SISTER CAROL HAS A ROLE AND A SONG IN MERYL STREEP MOVIE “RICKI AND THE FLASH!”

Earlier, news had been circulating that foundation deejay Sister Carol would be enjoying a cameo role. The deejay now has another reason to be even more excited as her song, Milk N Honey, from her 1997 Grammy-nominated album Lyrically Potent, is featured in the movie as well. While it is not on the official soundtrack for the film, it has got a big boost. “Sister Carol has a few songs in movies like Mighty Quinn (Principle), Failure To Launch (Original Drum) and Rachel Getting Married (Dread Natty Congo), but this is the first time that they’ve used her song three times in a movie,” said her manager, Dean Wauchope. Due to a confidentiality clause, he could not go into any specific details on exactly what the scene will entail. Ricki and The Flash, which is now being edited for an August release, is about a woman who gave up her family to become a rock star and then gets a chance to get everything back where it was.
