ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE RATES DRUMMER CARLTON BARRETT NO.27 ON BEST 100 LIST!

 Drummer Carlton ‘Carlie’ Barrett— THE Wailers’ Carlton Barrett, who perfected the One Drop beat during the 1970’s, is number 29 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 100 Drummers. The list appears in the publication’s latest issue. Sly Dunbar, who came to prominence as a session musician during that period, is ranked at 65. SLY & ROBBIE TO RECEIVE MUSGRAVE MEDALS FROM THE INSTITUTE OF JAMAICA, OCTOBER 28!

Eight persons will receive medals, with Sly and Robbie and Harvard University professor Orlando Patterson getting gold. The other awardees will receive silver medals. They are singer Myrna Hague-Bradshaw, creative choreographer Patricia ‘Patsy’ Ricketts, poet Dr Ralph Thompson, photographer Donnette Ingrid Zacca, architect Errol Charles Alberga Jr, and physician Anthony Vendryes. The recipients will receive their medals in a October 28 ceremony in the IOJ’s Lecture Hall at Tower Street, downtown Kingston. Recorded on the Virquarian label, the single is a joint production between Hall, Sly Dunbar and Errol Wilson.    By Howard Johnson—- The cover of Remembering Peter Tosh which was edited by Ceil Tulloch.— PETER Tosh was on the verge of an international breakthrough with The Wailers when Ceil Tulloch was born in June 1972. When he was murdered in September 1987, she was living in New York City and knew little about the fiery singer/songwriter. When she did get familiar with Tosh and his work, Tulloch found that his contribution to Jamaican culture was under-rated. “On several occasions when I spoke with people about roots-reggae music, they were quite familiar with Bob Marley, but confessed that they knew little about Tosh,” she said.
