AFTER FOUR NOMINATIONS, POPCAAN FINALLY WINS THE MOBO AWARD!

 Popcaan— After securing four nominations in as many years, deejay Popcaan finally won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act. The event took place on Wednesday night at the Leeds First Direct Arena, in west England. Popcaan, who was not present, won over Chronixx, London-based dancehall artist Stylo G, singjay Protoje and Omi, whose Cheerleader topped the British national chart in 2015. Popcaan is making waves locally with songs including Way Up and Weed is My Best Friend. He has a strong following among dancehall fans in the United Kingdom, thanks to several well-received songs. In 2010, he had an underground hit there with Clarks, done with his mentor, Vybz Kartel and Gaza Slim. OMI, POPCAAN, AND CHRONIXX AMONG NOMINEES FOR 2015 MOBO AWARDS IN LONDON, NOVEMBER 4!

By Kevin Jackson—-  Popcaan THE success singer OMI enjoyed in 2015 has been rewarded with a nod for Best Reggae Act at the 20th annual UK MOBO Awards. OMI competes with Popcaan, Chronixx, Protoje and last year’s winner Stylo G in that category. The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin) ‘recognises artistes of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music’. This is the first nomination for both OMI and Protoje. It is the second for Chronixx and third for Stylo G while Popcaan earns his fourth nomination. In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, OMI commented on the nomination. “This is truly one of my greatest achievements of 2015. SEVEN NOMINATED FOR “BEST REGGAE ACT” OF THE ANNUAL EUROPEAN URBAN MUSIC AWARDS!

   Morgan Heritage— THE 12th annual European Urban Music Awards nominations have been announced, with seven acts up for Best Reggae Act 2014. They are Mavado, Gyptian, Demarco, Morgan Heritage, Sean Paul, Stylo G and Popcaan. Stylo G, a Spanish Town-born, London-based deejay, copped the award for Best Reggae Album last week at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards. MADE IN BRITAIN…IGNORED IN JAMAICA!

However, they have failed to duplicate that success in Jamaica. Some of these acts include Stylo G, Wretch 32, Melissa Steel and Krishane Levy. Stylo G, who won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Artiste in London last week, has scored hits in the UK with Soundbwoy, Badd and Move Back. THE MOBO AWARD -THE FIVE NOMINEES FOR THIS YEAR’S BEST REGGAE ACT!

The nominations were announced yesterday in London. The 19th staging of the event takes place October 22 in that city at the SSE Arena, Wembley. Stylo G, who hails from Spanish Town, is the most visible of the nominees in the United Kingdom. MUSIC MOGUL SIMON COWELL IS REPORTEDLY LOOKING FOR REGGAE ACTS TO SIGN TO HIS RECORD LABEL!

 By Kevin Jackson—  Simon Cowell– British music mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly hunting reggae acts for his Syco Music label which is distributed by Sony Music Entertainment. According to a highly-placed source who works with the label, Cowell has been interested in signing reggae artists for some time. “With the emerging trends in music, and reggae and dancehall having an impact on mainstream radio in the United Kingdom due to exposure by artists such as Stylo G and Sean Paul, the feeling is Syco is ready to work with a reggae act,” the source, who requested anonymity, told the Sunday Observer. “Simon has persons in the field looking for the next big name in reggae.
