FOR A WORTHY CAUSE, SHAGGY AND FRIENDS DELIVERED!

  GREAT acts and a worthy cause have become a hallmark of the biennial Shaggy and Friends fundraiser for the Bustamante Hospital for Children. And Saturday’s showcase lived up to that tradition. Although it was not as impressive a line-up as previous years, what played out on stage justified the event’s growing status. The lawns of Jamaica House became event central as act after act delivered, catering to every market among the thousands who were in attendance and who watched via live Internet stream. Surprise artist Sean Kingston was most impressive. The Florida-born singer, who is of Jamaican parentage, had the venue buzzing to tracks such as 911 and his break-out hit Beautiful Girl. STAR-STUDDED GATHERING FOR “THE REGGAE POWER 2” ALBUM LAUNCH!

(PHOTOS: STEVE JAMES)—- THERE was a full house at Roe Japanese Restaurant in St Andrew Monday evening for the launch of Reggae Power 2, a joint production between Sly and Robbie’s Taxi Records and Spicy Chocolate, a hot Japanese production group. The 15-song compilation has songs from a number of artists such as T.O.K, Shaggy, No-Maddz, Richie Stephens, Romain Virgo and Maxi Priest. Drummer Sly Dunbar and his longtime musical partner, Robbie Shakespeare, were drafted into the project by Spicy Chocolate. PATRICIA CHIN OF VP RECORDS GETS A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!

 Pat Chin (second left) Patricia ‘Miss Pat’ Chin, widow of Vincent Chin and co-founder of VP Records, received the Lifetime Achievement Award Thursday night at the Libera Awards in New York. Chin is the first female recipient of the award, presented by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). She gave an emotional acceptance speech at the Highline Ballroom. “I am honored to be the first female to receive such a prestigious award. Words cannot truly convey my feelings.
