THE LEGACY OF SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER B.B. SEATON!

BY HOWARD CAMPBELL—  B.B. Seaton Though he recorded a number of cover songs early in his career, it did not take B.B. Seaton long to discover the importance of being a songwriter. By the late 1960’s, he hit his stride as singer/songwriter for The Gaylads, with whom he performs this evening at the inaugural One World Ska and Rocksteady Music Festival at Ranny Williams Entertainment Center. “If you have a good voice and don’t have good songs, it’s difficult to get a hit,” he reasoned. Seaton’s career began at producer Clement Dodd’s Studio One in the ska era of the early 1960’s, but blossomed during the rocksteady period late that decade, with The Gaylads. MAURICE ROBERTS, A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE LEGENDARY GROUP THE GAYLADS, DIES AT 70!

   Maurice Roberts (right) seen here with other members of The Gaylads, Randall Thaxter (lef) and BB Seaton.— MAURICE Roberts, a founding member of famed vocal trio The Gaylads, died on Friday at age 70. His daughter, Paula, said Roberts died at the University Hospital of the West Indies where he had been admitted the previous day. Along with Horace ‘Bibi’ Seaton and Winston ‘Delano’ Stewart, Roberts formed the classic Gaylads line-up which is recognised as one of Jamaican pop music’s great harmony groups. They thrived during the rocksteady era of the mid and late 1960’s, recording a number of hit songs for different producers, including Clement Dodd, Sonia Pottinger and Leslie Kong. AUSTRALIAN SINGER MISS TRACE, ROCKS WITH LEGENDARY SINGER/SONGWRITER B.B. SEATON!

Miss Trace rocks steady with B.B. Seaton– AUSTRALIAN singer Miss Trace has found a new hero in rocksteady great B.B. Seaton. Last month, while in London for Seaton’s 70th birthday party, she recorded three songs — Image of Love, Something For You and Stand By Me — with him. The two first collaborated last November on the songs, World Needs Now and Born To Believe. Miss Trace spoke of how she met Seaton, a prolific singer/songwriter who led harmony group, The Gaylads, during the 1960s. “I met a gentleman online in 2009, Ras Obi, who is a Nigerian singer based in the UK.
