PHOTOGRAPHER BRILLIANTLY CAPTURES CLASSIC REGGAE ALBUMS IN THEIR ORIGINAL LONDON SETTINGS!

 Retracing Reggae Record Sleeves in London is a project by French-born, Brixton-based photographer Alex Bartsch that takes a closer look at reggae record covers photographed in London between 1967 and 1987.  Pat Kelley Sings (1969): The pictures will be published in the book, Covers: Retracing Reggae Record Sleeves in London. Kingston-born Kelley was lead singer of The Techniques, with this LP including Workman Song and I Am Coming Home. THE GOVERNMENT OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO PAYS CALYPSO LEGEND THE MIGHT SPARROW $2MILLION FOR HIS PERSONAL MEMORABILIA!

By Shereita Grizzle—-   The Mighty Sparrow—- Slinger Francisco, more popularly known as the Might Sparrow, was over the weekend presented with a 2 million dollar check by Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly. According to local website www.newsday.co.tt, the Calypso singer received the money as payment for memorabilia from his personal collection, which is currently on exhibition at the Ministry of Culture in Port-of-Spain. Speaking to members of the media on the deal struck with the entertainer, Gadsby-Dolly said it took some time to push through all the details. JAMAICAN-BORN NEW YORK-BASED SOCA SINGER DANCEMASTER, REACHES OUT TO HIS HOMELAND WITH NEW RELEASE!

  Dancemaster—- To fans who attend West Indian events in the United States tri-state area, soca artist Dancemaster has been a stalwart performer for 30 years. Not much, however, is known about him in Jamaica, his homeland. Recently, the Port Antonio-born singer released the aptly titled EP, Dem Nuh Know Bout Me. It contains five songs including the title track. All are remixed versions of previously released songs which Dancemaster hopes will introduce him to Jamaican fans.  “You have people coming here from Trinidad and Barbados every year doing soca, but no one knows that there is a Jamaican out there who does soca. THE MIGHTY SPARROW AWAITS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROMISED BY THE T & T GOVERNMENT!

By Shereita Grizzle— The Mighty Sparrow— Slinger Francisco, better known as the Mighty Sparrow, is still awaiting financial assistance from Trinidad and Tobago for his medical bills. According to a news report from the country’s Guardian newspaper, president of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU), Ancel Roget, said Sparrow did not get the financial assistance promised to him a year ago. Roget, speaking at an OWTU press conference at the Paramount headquarters recently, expressed disappointment at the failure of the State to fulfil its promise to Sparrow, the man who helped put Trinidad and Tobago on the map with his calypso music. He said Sparrow was hospitalised for three months in the United States in September 2013, after suffering a stroke.
