AJ BROWN, THIRD WORLD, SHINE AT IRAWMA 2015!

JUNIOR GONG MARLEY HAS PRODUCED ANOTHER ABYSINIANS CLASSIC FOR THIRD WORLD!

   Third World— DECADES after recording a much-loved cover of the iconic Sattamassagana, reggae band Third World have added another track by reggae aggregation The Abbysinians to their repertoire. The Reggae Ambassadors have covered YimMesGam (Let Him Be Praised) and on Thursday, family, friends and well-wishers came out to support the premiere of the track accompanying video at the Triple Century Sports Bar in New Kingston. The video was directed by Kassa and sees the members of the band driving around in a vintage automobile to the moving music of the track. Produced by Damion ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, YimMesGan features the strong vocal harmonies of the members of the band with frontman AJ Brown. This is one of the areas being looked at this year for IRD, which will be observed on July 1. According to Davis, despite the strides made in the music over the years, “reggae is still not being given a priority in terms of investment and promotion here”. LUCIANO IS ADDED TO THE SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL, JUNE 19-21!

   Luciano— ROOTS reggae singer Luciano is the latest Jamaican artist to be added to the 22nd annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival set for June 19-21 at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, California. According to the organisers, the ‘Messenjah’ has been included in the line-up as “his voice resonates like a divinely ordained instrument possessing the power to comfort souls from all walks of life”. The three-day festival is peppered with Jamaican acts who have long been staples on this North American summer festival. A YEAR LATER, THIRD WORLD STRIVES TO KEEP BUNNY RUGS SPIRIT ALIVE!

With just over a year since his death, the remaining band members admit that while it has been difficult, knowing Rugs’ legacy lives on has been a source of comfort throughout the past year. Richard Daley, the band’s bass player, told The Sunday Gleaner that Rugs’ spirit will never die and that through his music, his presence is still felt every day.
