THE COMEBACK TRAILS OF ROOTS SINGER YAMI BOLO!

 Reggae singer Yami Bolo—- OF the roots artists who came through the sound system circuit during the 1980’s, Yami Bolo is among the handful still recording and touring. This year, he returned to the United Kingdom after a 10-year break, doing shows in Newcastle, Nottingham and London alongside Addis Pablo, son of his mentor Augustus Pablo. Bolo, 45, also released a number of songs. He reflected on 2015 in an interview with this column.  “It was great, wi give thanks ‘cause wi achieve a great video, a song titled Love Keeping us Together and Cease Fire that went number four on the South Florida chart, and number two on the Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Chart. THE FIRST ANNUAL IPHIAS FILM FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN TRELAWNY, NOVEMBER 12!

“THE SUGAR MINOTT’S DAY TRIBUTE” EXPANDS TO TWO DAYS!

The two-day event begins with a stage show at 8:30 pm tonight. “Frankie Paul came to the studio a few days ago. He heard of the tribute and asked to be part of it. SINGER YAMI BOLO RETURNED TO THE UK AFTER TEN YEARS!

 Yami Bolo— YAMI Bolo is one of many artists who were mentored by roots visionary Augustus Pablo. Fitting, then, that on his return to the United Kingdom after 10 years, he performed alongside Pablo’s son Addis. Bolo and Addis Pablo’s Suns of Dub group (which includes Trinidadian singers Jah Bami and Ras Jammy) did six shows in the UK, which took place in Newcastle, Nottingham and London. The main event was Kulchasplash on Easter Monday at the Electric Brixton club. Anthony B and Jah9 were also on the card. “Things went down well, everyone was well-received,” said Bolo. Bolo, Hugh Mundell, Junior Reid and Junior Delgado are just some of the acts who recorded for Augustus Pablo, one of reggae’s most creative producers and musicians. THE ANNUAL AUGUSTUS PABLO TRIBUTE SHOW TAKES PLACE IN KINGSTON JUNE 21!

By Howard Campbell— A tribute to Pablo—-THOUGH regarded as one of reggae’s visionaries, Augustus Pablo is largely unknown among the dancehall generation. On Saturday, his music and contribution to reggae’s expansion, will be remembered through the Annual Augustus Pablo Tribute Show and Rockers International Dub Weekender’ at Countryside Club in Kingston. Pablo (real name Horace Swaby) died in May 1999 at age 44. Guitarist Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, one of Pablo’s chief collaborators, will perform on the event with his Inna De Yard group. Mikey General, Dre Island, Micah Shemiah, Exile di Brave, Spliffy Dan, Suns of Dub and Pablo’s daughter Isis Swaby are also on the bill. Suns of Dub includes Pablo’s 24-year-old son Addis Pablo and Ras Jammy (Trinidadian Jamal Layne).
