KAFINAL RELEASES NEW SINGLE “I DON’T WANNA WAIT!”

 Kafinal— Singer Kafinal is delighted about his new single I Don’t Wanna Wait. Produced by Trench Town-based Triple L Records, the track was released earlier this month. “I Don’t Wanna Wait is a call to show the love while we are alive and able to experience and appreciate it,” said Kafinal. Kafinal, who won the Juno Award for Best Reggae Recording in April, has been experiencing a career boost since winning Canada’s highest musical honor. He won for the collaborative effort Nah Complain, featuring veteran deejay Daddy U-Roy. Kafinal (given name Jeffery Williams) hails from Spanish Town in St Catherine. VP RECORDS TO CELEBRATE GREENSLEEVES RECORDS’ 40th ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW RELEASES!

BY HOWARD CAMPBELL—  Top: Barrington Levy Bottom: Dr Alimantado Greensleeves Records, the British company largely credited with introducing dancehall music to a wide audience in the United Kingdom, will have a revival in 2017. Chris Chin, president of VP Records, the company that owns the Greensleeves catalog, told the Jamaica Observer that, “We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Greensleeves Records with extensive marketing and new releases.” VP bought Greensleeves in 2008. The latter was actually founded in 1975 by Englishmen Chris Sedgwick and Chris Cracknell. The Greensleeves roster is an impressive collection of late 1970’s roots-reggae, 1980’s dancehall and mega sellers from the 1990’s. Chin, who was awarded the Order of Distinction two weeks ago by the Jamaican Government, cites the Greensleeves acquisition as a highlight of his VP presidency. GREENSLEEVES RECORDS TO REISSUE DUB CLASSICS FROM HENRY “JUNGO” LAWS AND LINVAL THOMPSON!

They showcase the talents of the Roots Radics Band which played on countless hit songs by Lawes and Thompson at the Channel One studio in Kingston. Hopeton ‘Scientist’ Brown was the engineer on both albums. In May, Greensleeves will release three ‘Junjo Presents’ titles: Junjo Presents: Big Showdown, Junjo Presents: Heavyweight Dub Champion, and Junjo Presents: The Evil Curse of Vampires.Linval Presents: Encounter Pac-Men also hits the market next month. VETERAN SINGER/SONGWRITER ERNIE SMITH, IS GRATEFUL FOR HIS JaRIA AWARD!

And, like last year, he’ll be unable to attend. Smith, 71, is being lauded for his exceptional contribution as a songwriter. The ceremony is slated for the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston on Saturday, February 28. “I was like oh man! It’s the second time and I can’t make the show. A LARGE TURNOUT AS BARRY G AND DAVID RODIGAN ROLL BACK THE YEARS IN NEW YORK CITY!

 Veteran disc jockeys David Rodigan (left) and Barry ‘G” BACK in 1985, dancehall music was emerging from the Kingston and London underground into the mainstream. Disc jockeys Barry ‘Barry G’ Gordon and David Rodigan played major roles in that transition. Last Saturday, the two renewed their rivalry at Resort World Casino in Queens, New York. It marked the 30th anniversary of their memorable clash at Empire Roller Rink in Brooklyn.  Both are still on top of their game. LUCIANO IS ADDED TO THE SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL, JUNE 19-21!

   Luciano— ROOTS reggae singer Luciano is the latest Jamaican artist to be added to the 22nd annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival set for June 19-21 at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, California.   MEREDITH… a bit too much computers in the music… LAST year when bass player Chris Meredith decided on a return to music production he wanted his comeback project to reflect the sound that inspired him as a youth — stripped-down roots-reggae. While listening to a number of 1970s ‘rhythms’, he found one particularly appealing. “Is a old Bunny Lee beat wid two bass part, an’ wi actually play the second part.
